It seems I'm being spidered by some malicious spider and I'm wondering what the best way to block a range of IP addys is.  I've heard of .htmaccess but have heard it's not something for an IIS server.  I know there are some third party modules that block IPs.  Wondering what the simplest way is.  I'm using DNN3.2

Thanks for any help.

Go into IIS manager and there is a way to block IP's (range of IP's) in IIS.  I think it is under the directory security tab, but cannot check since I am on a computer that does not have IIS installed.  If you cannot find it let me know and I will get you step by step information where to set this up.

Hey thanks.  How about without messing with IIS?  I'm on a shared server and anytime I can keep from asking my host to do something I try to...

Not sure, unless there is a DNN module to do this.  I would still let your hosting company know about it.  If it is a malicios spider I am sure they would want to block it from all thier sites, not just yours.  Remember, since it is a shared server, even if you stop it from hitting your site, it can still hit all the other sites on the server which could have a negative impact on your site.

I agree that doing this in IIS is best.  But you could also use the Traffic Director module by dnnSpired, on SnowCovered here:

It doesn't directly "block" by IP per se, but it can redirect based on an IP or a range of IP addresses.  So you could redirect those visits to some hidden landing page or something like that.
