I don't know where all those performance problems come from but I never have those, not in any DNN version. One thing I do not use is the schedule file synch option, I have turned that off. There is really no need for that if you use the File Manager for uploading and changing files.

File Manager is useless. I use FTP, since I need to upload lots of files. I'm sitting here trying to get the portal to see the skin I just uploaded. Seems synch isn't even working at the moment. Fun!

Why don't you upload a skin the way it should be done? Read the documentation and that always works.

There are many areas where I need to make edits and changes, upload new folders, etc, where FTP is the fastest method. If you use Dreamweaver, it's one click and your files are uploaded/downloaded. No need to mess around with File Manager.

Last I checked, uploading a skin more than once creates duplicate skins. It doesn't refresh the skin, like uploading modules. Maybe they fixed that.

Edit: Bottom line here is that there are different types of users. I just think there should be an option to turn File Manager off -- at least not make DNN require file synch.

Jason,

with the new storage types, the database information about files became even more important, so I fear, there will be no fulfillment of your wish.

to upload skins, modules and language packs, you can use ftp and place them int the install folder, than either hit the install page with the approproate option or activate the install job on the scheduler. See the installation guide for details.
