Well - I have looked into several CMS and Portal solutions in the Open Source area. None of the solutions I have tried so far come even close to DNN regarding lack of speed performance. Not forgetting that from my point of view DNN has many other advantages.

My interest mainly is the external usage – as for web solutions – not intranet. Regarding reaching external visitors/readers in the hard competition race the marked of today represent, I will have a lot of trouble compare to competitors with better speed performance. As all studies I know of in this area shows, the availability is a key factor. Visitor lose their interest if they hade to wait for more then a couple of seconds waiting for a site or page to load.

Availability regarding the web is loading speed. It doesn't matter if you have the far best products or services  if the visitors/readers/customers turn the back towards you and don’t enter my door, because the door is to hard to open, comparing to your competing neighbours.

When building a modern web site or any other business or non profit organisation I always have to put the end users and visitors interest in the first place. The only thinkable business or other engagement that could act in a different point of view are those where money (e.g. private equity), visitors and customer can be regarded as a free and always available resource.
