So here is a rather general question about DNN. Do I have to use Microsoft Visual Studio to develop modules? Or can I use just about any development software I want? And if I can use software other than Visual Studio, what are the pros/cons of using Visual Studio vs other development software?

Thanks in advance.

I do not believe there is any reason why you could not use other development studios (so long as they are .Net), however, since Visual Web Developer is available for free download, I am not sure why you would not use it?

Modules are just user controls that reference the dotnetnuke.dll, so it doesn't matter. I don't even think you need to compile your module if you're just making something simple and don't use code behind. What other development software do you want to use?
