I've got a handful of DNN sites on various servers, some hosted some that I have complete access to.

What processes or procedures have others used to do backups of their sites before they do any upgrades?

With the serves I have full access to it's pretty straight forward. I'm really looking for information on hosted servers or configurations where access to the servers is restricted.

TIA

John

Real easy one here.  I script backups to happen on a daily basis.

I use WinRAR commandline to RAR (aka zip) up my Inetpub DNN directory.  WinRAR supports .RAR files in excess of 2GIG (zip limit is 2GB).

Then I have a MS SQL schedule to backup my entire DNN database daily.

My script takes that .RAR filesystem backup, as well as the SQL backup, and SSH transfers it to an offsite backup location.

Poof!

Fle backups are easy here - ws_ftp pro with a file sync script that just uploads the new stuff.

The trouble for me is trying to backup a sql server 2005 database in a shared hosing environment at MaximumAsp. After weeks of trying, I have given up :(. According to them, there is no way to back the thing up without them granting me adin rights, which is just not an option in a sared hosting environment. Thy said that Microsoft might address the issue in SP2.

I'd love to hear from anyone that has successfully backed up an SQL2K5 instance using SSIS.

Is not my intention to "SPAM" the forum advertising our BackupScript module, but just wanted to let you know that may be it can help you to backup your site (and please let me know if it fails as I want it to work on any ISP).
