Hello,

I have a situation where I would like to support Single-sign in capabilities accross multiple parent portals.  Is this possible to do?  Maybe I need to use child portals, however each portal will have it's own root domain name, and I'm not sure that it's possible to do that with child portals.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

mr17hz

mr17hz,

Were you able to find a solution to this? I have a similar question and I have yet to find a solution. Please let me know if you were able to make this work. Thanks!

Child portals can have their own unique domain name.  In the case of being at a host where you can only officially have one domain name, simply add the second (i.e. child portal's) domain name into your main domain's host header in IIS.  Make sure to add the second domain into the child portal's aliases.

As for SSO, there was recently threads on that....you can do it by simple edits to some table.  Try some searches of this site via Google and you'll find it I'm sure.

mr17hz,

I've read through most of the threads on this issue and here is what I know.

  1. There is a 3rd party module that looks like it will do the trick: DNNMasters Multi Portal User Sharing
  2. It is a planned feature for a future DNN release (but I have no idea when)

Before I plunk down $200 for DNNMasters module, I wanted to pose this question to the group:

Can I accomplish this same functionality by simply modifying the Core code? In my scenario, I'd like every registered user to have "Registered User" access to every parent portal on the site. At login (or registration), can't I add an entry into the UserPortals table for that user, for every parent portal in the system? I'm a newbie so I'm sure I am missing something critical here. But at first glance, when adding an existing user to a parent portal, all that happens is an entry in that table giving the user access to that portal. So, by checking during login and registration, I could give each user access to all portals. Am I over-simplifying this?

Maybe this is useful?

The Portal Single Sign On (PortalSSO) allows child portal to use accounts in parent portal to log in.  This module overcomes limitation of using single user across multiple portals in DotNetNuke 3.x.  The module provides login screen and user registration screen.  Login Screen - when a user logins, the module will look up user name and password from the parent portal.  If the account is existed in the parent portal but not in the child portal, the account will be created in the child portal.  If the account is existed in both the parent and child portals, the account in the child portal (name, phone, email, password, etc.) will be synchronized with the account in the parent portal.Registration Screen - when user changes the password in the child portal, the password will be sync with the parent portal password.
