Hi

I'm doing a website for a newsletter firm and they want to have their stories online so that registered or anonymous users can view it. Obviously they want to manage and approve content and (ideally) the content will be available across many portals.

I am simple looking for the very BEST news articles module available for 4.3.5. This will be key to the whole project. Does anybody have any ideas?

Currently I've seen Ventrian Systems "news articles" module. Whilst this is very good indeed, it does not support sub-categories.

I will be looking at contentbuilder site (when they get round to authorising my demo account):
http://mms.dnnmasters.com/

I've looked at announceIT, my issue with it is the way is displays content (don't see any way to customise it in their blurb):
http://www.interactivewebs.com.au/Default.aspx?alias=www.interactivewebs.com.au/announceit

Then there is XMOD (I really don't know how good this will be).

Would anybody care to share their experiences?

Thanks!

A couple of quick opinions:

Ventrian is very good, if you can live with no sub-categories. Have you put in a request for these over at ventrian.com?

Xmod, is OK, but again there isn't a simple way of getting sub-categories. Although it is uber flexible, it has a bit of a learning curve and I believe the data is stored as xml text in the database rather than as database records, suggesting it will struggle with large numbers of record.

I think Ventrian is the most powerful module in this area, there are tricks you can use e.g. by combining multiple news module with an RSS module (e.g. nukefeeds). If you have a small number of main categories and a large number of sub categories, you can setup a news module for every main category. If you want to display the headings of all the articles (e.g. on th home page) you can integrate them by means of a Feed module. However, if you have an elaborate category tree, this will not work.

The other option is, of course, custom development on the basis of this module, but this will generally take much more time to implement. If you have the budget ask Scott to do it.

Thanks guys...

Yes I've asked Scott about the categories, obviously he's a very busy chapie indeed, so good things come to those who wait!
One thing I know about Scott is that he does deliver and his support is superb.

Unfortunately my project won't wait, that's why I was investigating alternatives.
I might get the boss to read these forums so he might temporarily reduce his requirement (as far as the categories go).

Cheers
