Hello,

i am new to the whole build and run a website experience. a friend thought dnn was a pretty good place to start, i think he was right. my friend helped me get the site up and gave me a basic tutorial everything else i have learned from trial and error and now feel pretty comfortable with my dnn site. i would now like to try to take next step with the site and need a little more advanced help, please.

first i am a firefighter/emt and my site is a fire and ems news and info site called thefederalq.com. right now i have 2 questions 1. what is the media module supposed to do and any suggestions on how i might apply it to my site?

2. you ever been to a site and there is usually an image of something....say a fire and to the side or below the image there is a brief description and then it will say "read full story" or "read more" and you  click on that and another window opens and of course there is the story. i am using dnn 4 and don't know if i just don't have that capability and need a different module or i do have the capability and just haven't figured out how to do it.

can someone please help or point me in right direction?

p.s. also any help with customizing a logo would also be greatly appreciated!

thanks a lot

Patrick

Patrick-

I have never used the media module, so I can't say what it does for sure. As for number 2 dnn does have an announcements module that comes installed. You could add an image in the description if you would like, and it displays the title of the announcement and then has a "read more" button. Here is a link to our News page so you can see an example: http://www.feeco.com/Company/News/tabid/70/Default.aspx. Otherwise SnowCovered.com might have some different modules similar to this. Good luck!

The Media module can be used to play flash, videos or simply display an image.  However, please note that I have found several issues with it.  I never was able to get it to play flash.  I also recently discovered that if you use it to display an image in your right pane that the image will be cut off (use Text/Html module to display image in this case).

The Announcements module can do what you outline in #2 and you can also tweak its template via the settings.  You could also achieve the same thing by using a Text/HTML module and creating the links yourself by hand.
