I am currently developing a DNN web site in DotNetNuke 4.3.4.  I have noticed a couple of things about this portal framework.

  • First, it is NOT XHTML complient at all!  With so many different components to this framework it makes it hard to create a web site that is compatible with several of the major browsers in use today.  I think it is important that the core DotNetNuke framework be completely XHTML and CSS standardized.  This will make it easier for users of the system to create sites more effeciantly.  To prove it just run a w3 Markup Validation on DotNetNuke.com.  Last I checked the home page had 160 errors!
  • Two, I noticed that the site performance can be slow when loading.  Now I don't know about you, but if I am building a web site I want my home page to load as quick and as efficiantly as possible.  If it takes more than 30 seconds to load the home page then its to slow!

If someone can tell me if there is any work being done to fix these issues in the core DotNetNuke framework or knows a way to correct these types of issues I would appreciate it.  Thanks in advance for your replies.

The next release coming up is 4.4. It is very focused on performance, and is hopefully going to include xhtml & compliance enhancements noted here:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/BlogsDotNetNuke/tabid/825/EntryID/474/Default.aspx

You should spend some time going through recent DNN blogs:

Also do a google search on the DNN site for 508 or xhtml. Lot's of very good threads and solutions on these.

There is alot of information there for you. Also it looks like 4.4 release candidate 1 has just been released to the platinum benefactors so we're getting close!

Try running validation on my sites at www.OBrienit.com or www.hjalmars.org - both are dnn 4.0.3, table free for layout and can also pass automated accessibility testing.

It is possible to fix the issues if you need to. I hope future versions address this.
