I don't understand how the URL redirect works inside DNN. I want to have a "host" site that has multiple portals, but I want each portal to have the ability to have their own .com website. For example, I have www.myportal.com and I want a child portal on my site, but I don't want it to by www.myportal.com/childportal, but rather something like www.chasereports.com . Can DNN allow me to do this? And if so, are there any good tutorials online that show me how?

Thanks,

-shnar

DNN will definitely allow this. What you're describing is a parent portal. You can specify that it is a parent portal when you create it, or you can change it later on by adding a portal alias (e.g. www.chasereports.com) on the site settings page of the admin menu.

You also need a hosting provider that will allow you to create a domain alias.

I have several sites hosted under one dnn install.  For each one I have to add the additional URL to the "Site Settings" page (For each of mine, except the parent portal,  I have two aliases, one that is the complete URL (www.myamazingsite.com)  and another that is in this format "www.myparentportal/Myamazingsite"

Then in my hosting control panel I do not have an entry for myamazingsite.com, but I do have a domain alias of myamazingsite.com (and one for each of the other sites that are portals of the parent site) added to the record for "myparentportal.com".  Specifically how you do that will be determined by your hosting provider's setup.

Not super familiar with how website hosting works, I asume that domain alias is different from domain forwarding. Which DNN hosting sites do you recommend for that will allow this?

Yes a domain alias and domain forarding are different. You will need a host header entry for your IIS website that matches your portal alias for your parent portal. Your hosting provider will need to configure that for you or some have a "control panel" that will allow you to edit the entries yourself (depending on your host).
