Here is my scenario

- I insert a row into the tabmodules table in order to make a module appear in 2 places

in order for it to appear - I have to go to the tab I referenced in the above statement and either add or delete a module on that page. In which case the module i refened in the insert will show up on the tab.

Question: Why do I have to add or delete a module for the instance to appear? I thought DNN would just load all the modules from tabmodules and diaplay. There must be something else that is going on.

Maybe a dnn DB guru or developer can help me here?

Thanks in advance

The TabModules are cached, so if you update the DB directly then you will need to invalidate the cache.

John,

Thanks for the reply - can you give me a bit more detail on how to invalidate the cache? Is this the broweser cache you are referring to? Or is there a field in the DB that I can set?

Regards,

Update - well I looked into "invalidate the cache" and found that if you modify the web.config - in my case I added some whitespace and saved - the module would load.

NOw the questions are -

- is there another way to do it?

- if I do it via changing the web.config - I'm thinking of writing a stored proc that would add or remove whitespace or some data  to web.config - but unsure of how such a sproc would look

Thanks again for the at least pointing me in the right direction John :)

It's the DotNetNuke application cache. If you are not writing code to do this task then you can just clear it under Host > Host Settings  + Advanced

You can also clear the cache by restarting the application.  That operation can also be performed on the Host Settings page in versions 4.3.7+ with the link that says restart application at the bottom of the page.
