After following the installation instructions I get this error when trying to select 'edit text' in a html/text module.

A critical error has occurred.

The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

When I set the provider back to FTB in web.config the text editor works.

Note: this same error happened for me on my PC at work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Regards,

Andrew

Can you share with us the specific steps you did?

Also, can you post you current configuration: DNN Version, IIS version, FCKEditor provider version, etc

And, you need to check how deep goes your path before DNN (The path to the disk folder where DNN is installed), are you using NTFS?

Hi Locopon,

I've fixed my problem. I was using "Preview in Browser" from within MS VWD instead of utilising IIS.

With the help of Lee from DNN Creative I have been able to get all working.

Basically the steps are:

1. Check if .NET Framework 2.0 is installed through add/remove programs.
2. Check if IIS is installed, if not Install IIS.
3. Configure user rights in gpedit.msc
4. Install/Repair .NET Framework 2.0
5. Install DNN 4.0.3 available from SourceForge (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dnn)
6. Create new web HTTP project in VWD, add database and rename release.config to web.config.
7. Assign Folder Rights to this project in IIS Manager
8. Build Project in VWD
9. Install FCKEditor

I now have FCKEditor working on my PC at home and at work. I can continue with DNN Creative tutorials (www.dnncreative.com)

Not bad considering I only learnt about DNN 2 weeks ago.

Regards,

Andrew

I have encountered this same problem so it is good to find a solution. But I do not understand why I cannot use the ctrl-F5 function in VWD and insterad have to use IIS. Can someone explain? I'm a newbie to DNN and pretty new to web dev in general.

Thanks in advance.
