Don't apologise for being a newbie :)  We're all newbies at some point!

Unfortunately there is no way with the built-in tools for the Reports Module to export data in Excel format.  There are plans to add this functionality in the future, but it is not present at the moment.  If you are programming-inclined (or know someone who is) and want to try your hand at adding this functionality, it could easily be implemented as a Visualizer.  There isn't really any developer documentation for Visualizers yet, so you'd have to do a little exploring of the code, but basically all you'd need to do to get started is make a copy of one of the folders inside DesktopModules/Reports/Visualizers (such as "Grid") and then start hacking away.

As I said, there are plans to add this functionality, so if you're not a programmer and can wait for a few months, it will be there.  Until then, you'll have to track down another module (I'm sure there are modules which allow you to export user data).

Hope that helps!

Although not exactly the same, there are other SQL report modules available that do have the export to Excel feature.  Check out SQLView Pro from DNN Stuff and / or SQLGridSelectedView from my site www.tressleworks.ca

Hope this helps
