Hi everyone, the Reports Module has finally entered the release process and as long as everything is ok it should be ready for release in a few weeks. I'm posting the updated Release Notes here because I've tweaked a few things since I last posted notes on this next version:

=====================
=           Reports Module          =
=           Release  Notes           =
=           Version    4.4             =
=====================

These are the Release Notes for Version 4.4 of the Reports Module.

========================================

Table of Contents
1. New Features
2. External Components for Visualizers
3. Bugs Fixed in this Release
4. Known Issues

========================================

1. New Features

* Visualizers Framework - An extensible framework for displaying the data retrieved by the Report Query
* New Visualizer: Grid - Extracted old Grid functionality into a Visualizer
* New Visualizer: HTML Template - Replaces tokens of the form: "[" + column_name + "]" with the
    value of column_name in an HTML Template that is instantiated for each row of the results
* New Visualizer: XSLT Transform - XSLT Transform that operates on an XML form of the data returned by the Query
* New Visualizer (External): Chart - Renders a chart based on the data provided. REQUIRES EXTERNAL COMPONENT - SEE BELOW
* New Visualizer (External): Reporting Services - Displays a SQL Reporting Services Report. REQUIRES EXTERNAL COMPONENT - SEE BELOW

2. External Components for Visualizers

The Chart and Reporting Services Visualizers are not active by default and require external components to be installed. For the
Chart Visualizer, the ZedGraph component must be installed (just by dropping a DLL in the Bin folder for your website). For the
Reporting Services Visualizer, the Microsoft ReportViewer control must be installed. Please see the "INSTALL.txt" file in the DesktopModules/Reports/ExtVisualizers folder

3. Bugs Fixed in this Release

There are no formal Bugs fixed in this release as none have been placed in Gemini. However, the following issues
(as reported in the Forums) have been fixed. Future bugs will be posted to Gemini for tracking.

* Data is cached indefinately => Data can now be cached for any set duration or not cached at all
* "CreatedDate" and similar fields cannot be queried => The "Bad SQL" filter that removed DDL SQL commands (CREATE, DROP, etc.) and
    dangerous DML commands (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) has been tweaked to allow for field names that, as part of their name, include
    one of those words.

4. Known Issues

Due to a bug in DNN versions 4.3.5 and below (DNN-4094) the Reports module CANNOT BE INSTALLED UNDER MEDIUM TRUST in DNN 4.3.5 and below. However, once installed the module will run under medium trust properly. This issue has been fixed in DNN version 4.3.6.

There are no other serious known issues, please report any issues you discover to Gemini (http://support.dotnetnuke.us) in the
Reports Project or to the "Developing the Reports Module" Forum with a subject starting with "BUG:" and as much detail as you can to
describe what you believe caused the error.

Just wanted to say that I love this module!

I also hate starting the sentence with something negative, but do you have any timeframe on when you might be releasing 4.4!

Thanks

Thanks for the comments! I had to fix a couple of bugs that arose during the testing but the module is back in the Release Process. I'd rather not committ to a date because as soon as I give one, I'll probably miss it :S but we're talking about a matter of weeks until release.

Any possibility of getting it early to test it? :)

Thanks in advance,

I'm obviously getting into this a little late in the game, but I had noticed that you had said that in a future release you were planning to add the ability to parameterize the query. I think you mentioned PortalID, TabID and UserID would be added to the next version.

Two questions: Is 4.4 the "next version" that you were talking about?(I don't see anything like this in the new features) and: What version will it be in if not 4.4?

Thanks a lot,

Thom Smaller
