Hi!

Id like to make a custom controle with a text/html area inside of it. The reason for this is that when the site administrator uses the wysiwyg (or what it's called) editor, or the simplifyed editor, formating and HTML coded sections often gets ruined due to the supposed intelligence of those two controls. It would be better for me to lock down the sections of the control that shouldn't be allowed to be changed.

Thanks in advance for any hints, tips or guidance that could help me make this possible...

Before you get too deep into creating your own module ("custom control"), you might want to check into the free plugins available for FckEditor (the default DNN text editor):

  http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=75348&atid=737639|FCKeditor's

If no existing plugin does exactly what you want, writing your own FckEditor plugin is an option:

   http://docs.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_2.x/Developers_Guide/Customization/Plug-ins

Also be aware that you can change DNN's default text editor from FckEditor to a different type of editor that may be more "code-friendly" by default.

You can also reveal/conceal different aspects of the icon bar for different groups of users, so can enable/disable different features such as inserting flash, inserting images, changing font, switch to source view, etc.

Hi!

Thanks for your replies. I will try to explain further what I need. Lets say, I create a custom module or user control, in the simplest way possible, with for instance just an image and a text field. I want the text field to be editable for the site editor, but I dont wan't him to be able to edit the picture tags by misstake if he choses to use the source edit function.

So, id like the control to show the picture, and the textfield, and when the user puts the mouse on top of the text field he will get an option to edit this specific area instead of the whole control getting access to code he wont need. So, like putting the text/html control inside of my other control, like a Template or something. I guess I could make a specific container and set it for the text/html control to almost reach my goal... But this feels like the wrong way of doing it...

Thanks in advance/Jesper
