Hi,
I'm pulling what little hair i have left out over a problem wherein the module i'm developing works as expected on my local pc/dev environment.
However when I put it up on my "live" dedicated server some links cause the following error:

338|error|500|Failed to load view_state. The control tree into which view_state is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save view_state during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.|

And "underneath" this error seems to be lurking this javascript error:

[Exception... "'Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Sys.Webforms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Failed to load view_state. The control tree into which view_state is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save view_state during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001c (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_JS_OBJECT)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://firebug/content/spy.js :: onHTTPSpyReadyStateChange :: line 497" data: no]
GenerateMenuHTML()(Document )spmenu.js (line 267)
(?)()Default....ayerID=16 (line 599)
spm_getTags("BODY")[0].onclick = spm_a.../document.body.onclick = this.bodyclick;

btw - i am not loading any controls dynamically, but i am using AJAX controls and have set the module controls to partial rendering.

Thanks!

Two other pertinent facts:

1) This error does NOT happen when I login as host !

2) I am running DNN 5.00.00.

 Ok, an update...

I was able to "fix" the problem by eliminating, one at a time, each of the user controls that were embedded in my dnn module user control. The user control that was causing the problem was one that I had created that was intended to support a modalpopup message whereever needed in my dnn modules. When I removed the user control that was using the ajax modal popup extender, then the problem was fixed.

at this point i don't have time to investigate further - so i'll use another technique to communicate status to the users until i can figure out if i can implement a working version of a modalpopup in a user control.
