I have recently upgraded my installation from DNN4 to DNN5 and I'm using the latest version. In my previous installation I had a 2nd data provider defined which worked fine. However, in DNN5 it does not work and when the provider is added to the web.config file and the site restarted it goes in to the 'Install Mode' wizard for a new site.. If I take the 2nd provider out then the site runs as it should albiet I can't access my provider. This is the section from the web.config file with my provider added.

    <data defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="SqlDataProvider" type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" upgradeConnectionString="" providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\" objectQualifier="dnn_" databaseOwner="dbo" />
        <!-- PDM Start -->
        <add name="FReDDataProvider" type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider" connectionStringName="FReDSqlServer" upgradeConnectionString="" providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\" objectQualifier="fred_" databaseOwner="dbo" />
        <!-- PDM End -->
      </providers>
    </data>

If anyone knows why this is happening and how to get the 2nd provider to work I would appreciate it.

Paul

Does no one have any help to offer on this as it is currently stopping my work. Any help or advice is welcome.

I solved it myself, there is no bug in the core code. I finally figured it out that the entry in the web.config file needs to be different to the one in the older DNN4 web.config.

The new version is as follows: -

    <data defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="SqlDataProvider" type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" upgradeConnectionString="" providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\" objectQualifier="dnn_" databaseOwner="dbo" />
        <!-- PDM Start -->
        <add name="FReDDataProvider" type="YIG.DNN.FReD.SqlDataProvider, YIGFReD.SqlDataProvider" connectionStringName="FReDSqlServer" upgradeConnectionString="" providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\" objectQualifier="" databaseOwner="dbo" />
        <!-- PDM End -->
      </providers>
    </data>

Sorry if I confused anyone.

Paul

I have the same issue you started with, but I'm afraid I don't understand your solution completely.  Did you create a new DLL with the YIGFReD.SqlDataProvider namespace?
