Using LINQ to SQL with DotNetNuke

I certainly may be off base here, but I am assuming that if I want to maintain compatibility with DNN 4.7 and up that using LINQ to SQL with DotNetNuke is problematic. If for no other reason that people may not have upgraded their webservers since they installed DNN. Would I be correct in this assumption?

I'm assuming I can programmatically check to see if .NET 3.5 is running and disable the module if not? Anyone have a snippet for this or can point me in the correct direction? Or am I just misthinking the approach?

Thanks.
