I'm a newbie into dotnetnuke 5 and have some question.

I have a asp site (vb-script and access) and want to migrate it to dotnetnuke 5.

Its a site for cars with lots of records in the database. I manage to import the database into my SQL Server.

I have copied some of my tables(relation with reference to others table)  into the dotnetnuke database.

1. How can i show them on the public site but allso be able to maintain them on the admin site.
2. Dont i have to make modules for this or can i just make it in VS2008 (dataview-datagrid etc)

3. Can I use LInQ to show my tables?

4. Can I use Telerik- and Devexpress component to it

Its a showstopper for me

Please advise me

I'm not really a programmer so I can't say much on Linq, or developing modules but as a non-programmer...

You could put this together yourself using:

  • The forms and Lists module may do what you need, though I've not yet used it.
  • XModPro is a commercial module version with good support to meet your needs.
  • OpenWebStudio (my fav) is open source and I believe the most powerful but the learning curve is higher with less concise documentation.

Hope it helps!

1) If you have an existing administration site and just want to display the data through DNN, then yes, if your admin modifies the data in the tables that the Display would pull from then it should work just fine.

2) You will have to make a DotNetNuke module. You can use visual studio 2008 and the dataview-datagrid controls.

3) Yes.

4) Yes.

Thank you for yours replies.

Just thought there must be an easyer way?.

By the way - I have tried to use OWS. It seems not to be working with this version of DNN (5.1.2). When i try to put the module on an page it failed - OWS is currently unavailable.

Same trouble I have with codesmith ( Can you belive that - spent 200$ on this software)

XMOD Pro - can't afford it for the moment

OK i'll go by the dataview-datagrid controls.

Visual Studio Express is Free :)

If you took 30 minutes to go through this tutorial you should be able to do what you need:
