Hello All,

Thanks in advance.

I just installed and running the DNN on my dev sys. I am able to create the custom modules. Here my requirement is customize the exisiting module of DNN (ex Blogs). How to do that? I got the source code of the latest version even. I want to change the code and ui and the i need to add that module to the DNN.

Can anyone help me in this regard.

Thanks and Regards,

Rameswara Chary. A

To support upgrading to later version of DNN as they are released, I make the following suggestions:

  1. Open the Source Code in Visual Studio
  2. Change the Namespace and Assembly name in the Project Properties and in Files*
  3. Change the Module Manifest (.dnn) file to reflect the assembly name change
  4. Update the Module Manifest to use a new Module Name*
  5. Update the Module Manifest paths to use a new Folder Name under the DesktopModule dir
  6. Change the Database Scripts so the Tables Names, Sproc Names, etc are different*
  7. Make your changes via Visual Studio
  8. Create the Install Zip
  9. Install and Test

*You need to make sure that there are no conflicts in the names so your updates are not over written if you upgrade DNN or install a later version of the core module (in your case the Blog module).  You can change this name to whatever extent you want so long as it is unique (I would just Prefix with company/client initials, for instance, Brisinger Group, Inc. could be BGI, so I would add BGI_ in front of the existing names (code and DB).  This would make everything unique.

I hope this helps to answer your questions.
