Scippy, Users Online Time is a timeout used to wait before removing entries from the usersonline table. Session timeout is configured in IIS web.config or machine.config

no, we detect whether a user has moved on by using the forms authentication timeout. In addition the code also updates the user's lastactivitydate in the database, which helps resolve the users online values correctly. As previously stated we do not use session variables in core code.
