Hi there -  I have a configuration file that executes nicely using the XMLMerge module to make changes to the web.config file. However, I would like this file to execute during the DNN installation. I thought maybe if I placed it in the Install/Config file it may be executed, but no love. Is there a manifest file or something that I need to create in order to take advantage of that folder? My file looks exactly like the files that already exist there.  I see version named files, but also SystemWebExtensions, Net35, Net40.... is the name of the file what decides to execute or not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

you add a config component, either in the install/config folder, or else within a module/provider manifest - you can see the definition in the wiki at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Manifest-Component-Installers-The-Config-Component/Default.aspx .I find the configuration manager is a great way to test these changes - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2838/DotNetNuke-Spotlight-The-Configuration-Manager.aspx

Hi Cathal,

Thanks for the response. Maybe you can help me with my specific issue. I've created a config file that I've created and it works perfectly when ran through the XMLMerge module; however, when I place it in the Install/config folder, it does not get executed. I'm using a custom install template for the installation and the also the default portal.   The installation goes great, everything executes as anticipated -- except for the Install/config file that I have. I'm wondering if there is an explicit entry I need to make in the install template somewhere to make sure it gets executed? All of the other files in the config folder are getting executed, just not mine?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Briana

Config files are installed during install/upgrade based around the version i.e. 06.00.00.config . All other config files such as SystemWebExtensions.config are installed by specific steps in upgrade.vb. At present we do not support config updates for non-versioned files, so to perform custom upgrades you either need to add your custom configuration to an existing config file, or to merge the changes directly into the web.config file. As an alternative you can create a module that does the config updates and drop that module into install/modules - all zip files are automatically installed during install/upgrade.
