Hi guys,

I'm writing a module that lists users based on certain criteria. I use a datalist control to display the users. When a user is clciked in the datalist, I would like to be taken to that user's profile. I don't know how to do that.

I have some convoluted ideas like putting an html anchor around the username or profile picture and then setting its href property to the user profile url- it's a lot of work. I am assuming that they are probably built-in  and cleaner ways to do this.

Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Thanks for any help.

That is actually the correct way to do it . . .

But in reality its not that much work at all depending on how you implemented the datalist.

For example:  using an item template in a datalist you could create a LINK that builds the url by calling a simple function.

<a class="userLink" href="<%# getURL( DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "userid") ) %>">View User</a>

This link builds the actual target url by calling the function getURL with the value of userid on a row by row basis.

public String getURL(object thisUserId)
        {
            int intUserId= (int)thisUserId;
           return '/Admin/UserAccounts/tabid/264/ctl/Edit/mid/1330/UserId/' & intUserId.ToString() & '/Default.aspx';
         }
