Hello,

Does anybody know if there is documentation somewhere on how the social modules work in terms of notifications? What I'm wondering is this: If I use the social groups setup and then somebody joins a group. What do they get in terms of emails (by default)? Do they get a weekly digest of the posts in the journal of their group? How is that stuff managed - or is it?

I'm curious, in part, because we have many existing groups with many hundreds of members. They are already organized into security roles, and I could easily make those roles be both social groups and security roles. Then, I was wondering about setting up the groups thing on a page like "My Groups" and then have the journal/user directory in the group-specific pages. But, if I do that, when I start testing it, will thousands of people start getting emails with my test posts?

Thanks,

Mike

Notifications are a specialised form of platform message that can have associated actions with it - they just go into the users message table and then afterwards are handled as per any other message (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... covers this well). Note: the wiki has a good page covering the subscription API which is related to this and allows a module developer to add specialised types of subscription types, and the users can then control which they are interested in - see http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/...

Thanks Cathal - that's really helpful.

But, so I'm clear, are people "subscribed" to social groups in any way when they join them? So, if I join a new social group called "DNN Rocks", will I get any kind of update emails on the latest activity in the "DNN Rocks" journal?

Thanks,

Mike
