Hello,

I'm looking into open sourcing a project I've been working on, but I've got some concerns about the Telerik license.

I know we can't normally use the telerik components directly. So, for example, I couldn't open source something that uses RadTabStrip. But, here's my question. Can I use the DnnTabStrip, and then I handle the "TabClick" event, recognizing that the event's signature references Telerik.Web.UI.RadTabStripEventArgs? Given that, I'd need a reference in the project to the Telerik dll that DNN provides.

Is that OK? I'd obviously only be referencing it to use the DNN control, but it is nevertheless a direct reference to the actual Telerik dll.

Thanks in advance... I have a development license for the Telerik stuff, so it was easier in the past to just use it normally... But, I want to make sure I know the rules in case we go the open source route with this.

Mike

Since you own the developer license for telerik, you should be in good shape to include the dll in your projects and just use that rather than the DNN wrapped versions.

DNN & Telerik have ended their partnership and the controls provided by Telerik will be phased out in future versions. What that means for you presently, I don't know.

Thanks Eric... I know I can use them in my projects because of my license. But, what I don't know is whether I can make that open source.

I know that you can't use the components directly in an open source project, but, I'm not sure if you can reference the Telerik dll for things like event handlers for the DNN-wrapped controls.

Any idea?

Thanks; hope all's well,

Mike

Great question, and I don't know. I stay away from using them altogether. Good luck.

I don't see an issue in referencing the dll, as you are still using the wrapper for the control itself (according to the license)
