Hello,

I'm attempting to learn as much as I can about skinning in DNN.  I can't find a whole lot of info online for the absolute beginner except for things at a dnn tutorial site that requires a paid membership (always shows up in google).

So, I've been attempting to modify the MinimalExtropy skin that comes with DNN 5.x.  I can make changes to the skin.css file found at ../Portals/_default/Skins/MinimalExtropy/skin.css and they reflect on the site properly.  I can also edit image files in this directory and they are displayed according to the update as well.

In the same directory though, any changes I make to the ascx or html files to not display on the page.  For instance, I'm attemping to modify the index 1024 version of the skin.  If I add a div or text anywhere in either index 1024.html or index 1024.ascx none of it shows up when I refresh or reload the skin.

How would I go about modifying this skin?

Thanks for any help!

did you apply exactly this skin version to a page in your portal? did you make sure not to cache the files in your browser?

Sebastian, thanks for the reply.  I'm working with a local site through visual studio.  I've tried making a change to both index 1024.html and index 1024.ascx, applying the index 1024 skin, closing site, closing browser to clear cache, rebuiling website in visual studio and launching again and the change does not show.  Again these files are in the same directory as the skin.css file that I know the skin is using because changes there display.

you don't need to rebuild the website at all. if you change skin html files, you need to reparse the skin, if you modify skin aspx files, it will be effective immediately.

Sebastian, thanks again for the help.  I wasn't aware of needing to reparse the skin when changing the html version and the ascx files are updating properly now.  One more question, do I need to keep both updated or can I just choose to use either the ascx or the html and if so how does DNN know which one to use?
