I am looking to modify the document module to allow a documents visibility to be assigned to a single user at a time, so it works similar to an extranet giving customers a view of only their own specific files. So I will need to amend the 'Edit Documents' screen and place another DropDownList called 'VisibleOnlyToUser' with a list of all registered users in the system.

Has this been performed before and has anyone got any advise? Or is there another module which may perform this better?
I am using DNN 4

I don't have any *specific* advice right now, but DNN 4.5 (the next version) has per-user permissions.  So it might be worth waiting a couple of weeks to see what's available...
