I've upgraded from 3.1 to 3.3.7 and installed the latest 03.01.06. I am now unable to download pdfs.

In FireFox, when I click on the pdf the dialog tells me it's an "application/octet-stream". If I opt to save it, then it downloads it without the ".pdf" extension. IE7 also gives me trouble.

This was working fine under DNN 3.1, plus the pdf's on the DotNetNuke website render appropriately in my browser (i.e. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/Documentation/ProjectDocuments/tabid/478/Default.aspx), so I know it's not my browser.

This problem exists under IIS6 and IIS7, along with XP Pro, Windows Server 2003, and Vista Ultimate, so I'm thinking it's a DNN setting that I don't know about. Since I'm dnn 3.3.7 under the 1.1 Framework, it's not a compression issue like I've read about other people having with 4.x, is it?

Thank you in advance,

Scott

I'm having this same issue with documents. Anyone have a clue as to what might be causing this?

The core core that handles downloads went through a number of changes between DNN 3.3.5 and 4.0.1 to address this issue.  I don't have a record of exactly when & what was done, but it was to do with the setting content-type and content-length headers under differerent scenarios.

So I can't be 100% sure, but I think that the issue you are experiencing is because you are using DNN 3.3.7, and a later version would help.

Starting with DNN 3.3.0/4.3.0, the file handling was enhanced to support secure folders. All downloads now are using LinkClick.aspx, a DNN specific HTTP handler, that takes a file ticket to identify the file. This has the advantage, that you can reorganize your files in the portal's directory without breaking the links to it. Unfortunately, it took several version to get all issues figured out, AFAIR latest changes have been made in DNN 4.4.1 and are not integrated in version 3.3.7.

I'm using DNN 4.3.7.  I have a MAC user creating PDFs by using the PRINT to PDF option in Word (on a MAC).   She then uses the Add a Link/Upload New File module in DNN to upload the file.  When trying to open the link with Firefox (both MAC Firefox and Windows Firefox users), Firefox doesn't realize it's a PDF and pops the application/binary file type association (and not application/pdf).

Reading the above messages, it seemed that this issue (or a similar issue) should have been fixed in version 4.3.0.  As I'm using 4.3.7, is this still not fixed?  Any suggestions to fix?

Thank you.
