I am currently using the 03.01.06 version of the documents module. My question is, will the upgrade from this version to the 04.01.00 version result in losing the contents currently published to each documents module on my site?

Hello LiamLiamLiam,
Upgrading the module should not result in any file loss.  Basically, when doing an upgrade we either alter the structure of the table or add more tables to the database and then also make modifications to the actual module.

However, that said, ALWAYS make a backup of your database and your site (<install path>\Portals\<site directory>) before upgrading anything on DNN.  Feel free to post back if you have any more questions.

I'm running DNN 4.4.1 and am trying to upgrade documents module from 03.01.06 to 04.01.01

I get the install error message:

The element 'folder' has invalid child element 'compatiableversions'. List of possible elements expected: 'modules'.
Failure ExceptionSystem.Exception: Dnn load failed, aborting at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnAdapter_V2.ReadDnn() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

Is there an intermediate version I need to use first, or maybe I need to get around to updating the DNN to a more recent version?

Simon,

The current version of the Documents Module is 04.01.00 and it requires DNN version 04.06.02 or higher.  Version 03.01.06 is the highest version that will work with DNN 04.04.01.

The element "CompatableVersions" is something that was added after DNN 04.04.01.
