I am happy to see the current Documents module is going to be enhanced.  What is the status of the project?  Any idea when the new one will be available?  Also, will it be a module upgrade or released with the next version of DNN?

We're in the process of discussing our goals for the next version of the documents module.

Any headway on the project? I know there are many in the community that are in need of a truly secure document  module.

I don't know if this is mentioned in another thread. But would i be possible to display a particular folder contents instead of users uploading individual documents? Is that on the enhancement list?

That depends....if you are running the site in Partial Trust, then you can only reference folders under the app root.  Since I run my own site, I can tweak the settings....but if you're hosted by a third party, then MS is leading them to say "no."
