So, I am new and would like to know where to start. I am not a programer of any type. I have a better than average understanding of computers. I was told that DNN is the place to put together a good site for a low budget. Where can I gain a better understanding of how to use DNN?

The questions I have are things like the dif. between a skin and a module? Can I combine multiple skins and modules on one site? Once I choose a skin or module that is closest to what I want, can I change it? How hard it that?

I would like to build is a site that has an event calender, ecommerce, information pages, blog, forum and classifieds? Is this somthing that I can do with DNN and Snowcovered or one of the other skin sites? Or am I looking at to much custom?

Please help. Any advice is very welcome.

clay,

having a look at demo.dotnetnuke.com might answer some of the basic questions, besides, for a quick start I suggest using a hosting provider, which provides DNN installed for you.

In general, Skins and Containers take care of the look of your site while modules are used for function. Both are installed separately and skins can easily be applied to a whole web site or a single page. A container is used as a "frame" for displaying a module within the skin and is usually installed with the skin to make modules fit in nicely into the page design. There are ~30 modules included with DotNetNuke (not all might be installed during initial installation but can be installed easily from Host :: Module Definitions or Host :: Extensions). you may also install other 3rd party modules, you may obtain for free from www.codeplex.com and other sources or buy for (usually) little money from www.snowcovered.com.

For a successful and quick site setup, configuration and instructions, I suggest hiring one of the DotNetNuke consultants available.
