I am new to DotNetNuke and I am using 05.02.01.  In this version of DotNetNuke, when a new portal is created, the Links and the Text/HTML modules are installed by default. Is there a way to specify what modules are installed by default when a new portal is created? For Instance, I would also like the survey and the events module installed by default when I create a new module.

If you are trying to control which modules get installed during the installation process you can do so by going into the install/module folder and renaming any of the .RESOURCES files to be .ZIP then during the installation process they will get installed.

If you are talking about simply creating a new portal, after install has already occurred, you don't need to worry about it, if the modules are already installed at the HOST level they will be available for the new portal that gets created, unless of course you make those modules PREMIUM which then would require you to specify which portals can use them.

Does that make sense?

Chris, What you are saying does make sense. I have already installed DNN and I want to specify that when a new portal is created, the modules I want will automatically be displayed in the content for the newly created portal home page. For example, If I create a new portal and I log into that portal as a registered user (for that portal), I will see these modules in the content of the page without me ever having to add them to the current page. Thanks, Deene

Ah I see, so you want to create a Portal Template with some content in there.

So to do this you need to first create your sample portal, possibly the one you already have in place. Setup the pages, modules, content ETC as you want them to be.

Then go to the Host/Portals page, and from there you can create a Portal Template based on the existing Portal. Once you have another template created, when you create new portals choose that Template instead of Default.
