I'm looking for an open source CMS solution for a large site project so I'm evaluating everything.

The strongest impression I get from this web site is someone desperately screeming "please buy something! Anything!" The frequent reminders that "professional" versions are better than the "community" version and prompts for more and more personal information is a real turn off. This is either an open source solution or it is demo-ware. It cannot be both.

I'll do the eval but it will need to be an extremely outstanding solution before I'll recommend it to my client.

Depending on how you want look at this, it can be both.  If you want it to be opensource get the Community edition, the source code is freely available and download at will.  On the other hand if you want it to be demo-ware get the professional or greater edition.  No one is forcing you to buy anything.

The impression from your post is that you want things to be free and I guess the community edition may be better solution.

We have made 100's of portals on the community editon and now the first portal of the professional edition.

This one is a but more business critical so the support optians as wel als the better premissions provider and the telerik license was hy we did go with a PE version this one time and so far it works out great.

please be aware, that Community Edition and Professional Edition use the same Open Source code base for the core framework, while DNN PE adds support by DNN Corp., Telerik development license, a user manual and a couple of enhanced providers and modules.
