I'm going to say I'm new to DNN because I seem to stay in a perpetual fog as I try to build websites and use DNN.

I have tried every way I can think of to get Google to see my sitemap.xml and robot.txt files.

I've put copies of each in the Portal root folder, I've added copies of each into a module source area of the editor. I've added them into the header pane.

Nothing seems to work.  I've used three different sitemap modules that indicate they will be compatible with Google but, none have worked.  So, I'm lost

Can anyone give me some guidance?

Thank you,

robots.txt can only be loaded from the root of the application, this is not specific to DNN. As for sitemap, check your Site Settings and look for that section to get started. BTW, robots.txt is not portal specific and covers all portals in the install.

out of curiosity, why keep it this way?

the favicon.ico is a good example of a file that can be in the root but can be specific to the portal

a robots.txt file could have a sitemap specified and i belive that has to be full path with domain so:
      sitemap: http://www.nameofportal1domain.com/googlesitemap.asd

doesn't help anyone if you have 4 portals with different domains each. Although the .asd is certainly present/accessible from each domain, the robots.txt situation has forced it to be a hard-coded situation.
