My hosting allow me set the anonymous permissions only if I set read and write on all, DNN installs but this would leave the site open to attacks! So what should i do?

Open it up, do the install then close it up!?
What would not work if I do this?
Or should I leave some folders open and if so which?

Thanks

Adi

Where are you setting these permissions (I mean, are they NTFS, dnn folder permissions)? I assume you mean NTFS (file system), which only requires Anonymous (IIS User) permissions of read. The actual asp.net account used (Typically NETWORK SERVICE) needs full control, and this is only on some of the folders and your host should have this setup for you already.

Hi Chris, they are set in the Helm control pannel for my web site. I'm concerned that opening up permissions in the way the ISP say will leave my site open to attack! this is what they reply to me: You are incorrect. All websites on our system run under their own user account. This is classed as the anonymous user. We do not run users under the aspnet or network service accounts as that would be a huge security risk. Our method is the most secure possible! Setting permissions through helm is the correct way to do it.
