I have created a website called Site1 on my webserver and extracted the contents of the DNN folder to it. Then, logging in via the website I have defined the site as a portal. This site works fine.

Next I want to create a second site which will have multiple child portals off it, so I create the portal in DNN and call it site2 and add a port alias to it of www.site2.com. Once I create the site it say's login to the server via www.site2.com. This does not work as the domain I have pointed at the server does not seem to point to the portals folder on the DNN install and even if it did there are no .aspx files in the folder to load. Have I go the wrong end of the stick?

I want the following

www.site1.com - main install of DNN

www.site2.com
    |
    > www.subsite1.com
    > etc

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Paul,
Once you've created the second Portal, with the new Portal Alias you also need to add that ALIAS as a Host Header in IIS, so that the web server itself knows to point requests for www.site2.com to the DNN application. You can do this by creating a new website in IIS and pointing to the same folder on the file system (ex: c:\dotnetnuke) as you did for the initial install. Or you can go into IIS and add another binding for that domain to the existing website, without having to create a new site.

Brilliant, works like a dream now. I know I didn't read the entire install PDF but I could not find that bit of info.

Thanks for the very prompt answer.

No problem Paul, though to be honest that likely isn't in the PDF :(

One of my tasks for the next couple weeks is to completely rework all installation materials!
