I think that your issue with missing text is related to this (easy to fix) problem with the language files.

I have no direct insight into your other issues but you might try downloading/installing the (free) DnnWerk telerik editor provider.

This removes many of the folder permission checks that the Telerik editor in DNN makes.
It also includes a handy admins module to allow the easy switching between html editor providers.

This tactic would allow you to get on - in a worst case you can use the FCK provider. If the DNNWerk Telerik editor works you may have narrowed the issue down a little.
