Hi,

I installed DNN and it worked fine (after a long drawn out processtrying to fix errors). I could get to it at localhost/dnn, login and use the site the same as I can use my hosted one...everything was fine.

In VS2010 I started a new project to learn how to create modules. And then it all broke loose.

Tried to access localhost/dnn again to install the module but there is nothing really there. Clicked login and it goes to a login page with no way to login in.

I can still access the db through SQL Server Mgmt Studio Express, so there's no problem connecting with the data base that way.

I switched the cxn string in web.config between these two:

.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true;

.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;

...the later being the one I'm
So, I switched from the second one to the first one and then back again.

After this switch I now end up with the orig using now and I believe what was working before.
inal install page and the "Auto" option not available because it can't connect to a valid SQL Server db. I don't see how creating a module in a completely different project can have any affect on the localhost/dnn site and it's connection to a db.

I've rehashed everything I did to get my original install to work but no joy.

This is the page I posted on my site to explain my original install process and the steps I took to get things working. (It's messy)

Any ideas?

Thanks
Bob

Hi,

I went to the site you suggested and followed it as best I could. Following is the process and my work arounds:

Don't have a Databases\Security\Users folder
Have a   Databases\Security\Server Roles
    Databases\Security\Logins
    Databases\Security\Credentials (empty)

"Under database role membership..."
Right clicked to get properties. Of the 5 items listed

          o Permission Options #1
                + dbowner
          o Permission Options #2
                + db_datareader
                + db_datewriter
                + db_ddladmin
                + db_securityadmin

only db_securityadmin and it was listed as "securityadmin"
I selected it and "dbcreator". "Public" was already selected.

After revising the web.config file I was then able to get to the DNN install page. However the "Auto" option was still unavailable due no connection to db

I'm lost.
