Hi all

DNN 5.6.0

I've just installed SP1 for my VS 2010 and also IIS Express. I'm running on Vista Home so wanted something more like the real thing than that offered by VS.

It all installed without error and I've set IIS as my default server. Now, when I 'view in browser' with Firefox, it goes to http://localhost:63676/Default.aspx and gives me 'The page isn't redirecting properly'. It's all 'out of the box' and I've done nothing but accept the defaults. But I've obviously got something not quite right as I couldn't find many references to the error. I've emptied the FF cache, as one previous answer suggested.

While I'm writing, I wonder if someone could advise me on a similar subject. My 'wonder portal' It was created as a child portal and I have a customised login page called 'login' (original, huh? :)). I've set it as the login page for the portal. What do I need to set and where so that I can see my site outside of the DNN IDE? I apologise in advance for my ignorance. I've never had to have much to do with servers; there's usually a guy who sets all that up.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers

Ian

AFAIR you need to enter port in web.config, if not running on port 80

Hi Sebastian

Thanks for the reply. Ok, the only thing I can find in web.config is <add key="UsePortNumber" value="true" />, which I uncommented. Now, when I 'view' I get 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' (how I hate that message! :)) with:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabID, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +50
   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +2332
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +148
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

so I'm obviously missing a clue or two. I've had a search around but could only find things about setting up IIS Express on VS without SP1.

Sorry, I'm a complete numb-nuts when it comes to server bits and I'm back playing with VB after 15 years away, and completely new to DNN.

It's the same thing with the login page. I just don't have a clue where to start with it. I can get a handle on the coding alright; it's the steps to get there that are causing the trouble.

Cheers

Ian

how do your portal aliases look like in the database? I remember there were issues reported with non-default ports.

The aliases look ok. There's 41 of them, with just the one created by me. localhost:63676/dotnetnuke/test and it ties up with the portal id and created by user #1.

I switched things back to the VS internal server, just to make sure, and all was well again. But that doesn't give me the IIS facilities (even if I don't understand them :)).

Cheers
