Good morning! I am in the beginning stages of building my first website. It will pretty much be a website where subscibers post multiple items and members can search for specific items, so I'll need databases. I'm up for the challege!!

I was planning on using BlueHost and their PHP and MySql, but it doesn't look like DNN works with MySql (of course, I just bought a book on MySql). Any suggestions?  I only have a laptop computer, so I don't want to "run" anything from it and prefer to use hosting.

Also, as far as using DNN to build my website, this will need to be downloaded to my laptop where I will do most of the work and will then upload with the hosting server?? Any direction in laymans terms would be greatly appreciated.

Mackie,
A few things to know about DNN:

DNN is a Content Management System. This means you can build out your site using DNN itself (no need to work on a local copy then "upload" to a server). So adding pages, text, etc is all done through the DNN website itself.

Also, you'll need a host that can support the Microsoft .Net framework and SQL Server. It's also good if they host DNN specifically. You can find a few who advertise on this site to check out.

I would recommend starting with some videos about DNN, how it works etc. There are a bunch on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dotnetnuke&aq=f

Great information, Steven. I didn't even think about YouTube and will definitely look into the videos. Thank you!

I'm in the same boat as Mackie, being totally new to DNN and having to manage a substantial portion of our website with DNN.  So, thanks for the info, Steve - I'll definitely check out the YouTube link.
