Hello,

I am new to DNN and I am having trouble finding a way to create a test site. I would like to have a test site to test out new pages/content before I make it live on the production server.

If possible, I would like to have the test site in a sub-folder in the same directory as the main site. I asked someone to do this but they said it wasn't possible because DNN isn't set up to run in that way.

Any ideas or places I could go to figure it out?

Wow...   many ways...

You can 'stage' content on a site/portal and then turn it on when you are ready.

You can create a new portal for test on your current instance, and then either point to it (e.g., via portal alias) or import it to go live...

You can create a second instance and then copy the db and needed files to 'production' when done.  You can actually leave the db alone and just point production to it after test...

I typically only do the last as you can totally kill the test instance and db and production keeps humming.  Once running OK I never fear about making 'content' changes directly to production; that's why we use DNN to begin with.  Only the latter approach lets you test upgrades and new software comfortably.

Try reading the manuals for more info.    http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/M...

Where do you want to set up your test site? For instance, will this test site run locally on your computer or somewhere else, like a server on your network? What OS are you on?

DotNetNuke does not run inside of a folder in an existing instance.

You'd need a separate instance, or a new portal within your existing instance.
