Hi,

I'm currently running my community site on Community Server 2008.5 SP2 and due to the changes licensing prices etc. then I'm now evaluating DNN as a replacement. My site has approx. 58000 members, 80000 treads and 160000 forum posts, plus about 50 different blogs, the wikipedia and quite a lot of entries in the "MediaGallery" (used for downloads).

I have seen that Chris Hammond have created a migration project on Codeplex to upgrade from CS 2.2 to DNN, but since the data structure has not changed that much, then I expect that this can be altered to upgrade from my CS 2008.5. But it's only upgrading the forums. At least that means that I don't have to do everything from the beginning. So if anyone knows other tools that can be used to migrate blogs, wiki and media, then I would love to hear about it.

In the regards to the CS 2 DNN migration tool, then I have a question. This tool migrates to the DNN Forums, not the new Active Forums. So I guess that the best way is to install the DNN forums and migrate to this and then upgrade the DNN Forums to AF. I have seen that an upgrade tool should be available in Q2 2011, but I cannot find this anywhere.

In terms of a multi blog setup, what options do I have with DNN? I mean what modules/extensions do I need for this. And the same question goes in the direction of a replacement for the CS wikipedia. In regards to my current Download section (based on CS' media gallery), is there a comparable module/extension for DNN. Or even better something that has been created specific for handling software and documentation downloads?

Otherwise my evaluation of DNN so far looks good. I tested DNN 2-3 years ago and I'm happily surprised of the way it looks today.

Best regards,

Erik Ernst

its not a subject i know much about but Chris also created a series of blogs you may want to read - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...

Please note, we're working on release active forums as the new forums module and there will be a set of scripts to migrate content -i expect this in the next month or two (we were trying to get it done this year, but it's been very busy so i would not be surprised if it slips)

Hi Cathal,

Thank you. Yes I have seen his blog posts as well.

I have actually decided, for now, to go ahead with Active Forums and rewrite Chris' script to be useable with Active Forums instead. The only problem right now is actually to find the right documentation for Active Forums data model. And the of course the next issue is to get the blogs and wiki over.
