Hi,

I am new to DNN and have been customising the Community website set up by the initial download.

Making good progress, but stuck in trying to get the Wiki extension to work within my portal.

Have used the Host Extensions facility to download/deploy/install the Wiki module.

Cannot for the life of me work out how to configure the Wiki module or to get the Wiki module onto a page. I'm sure it will be straightforward if only I understood the terminology - but it is a new language for me.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards, Shane

Thanks for the fast response Matthias.

I have actually solved the problem. As I said, it was very simple. I knew I had to add the wiki module to the page I had created so I played around a bit more with that function. Eventually I discovered that in choosing the modules type the selections of common and host did not actually cover all modules between them - I had to specifically choose "all types".

Having added the wiki module and configured it and set up the editing permissions for the wiki, I now have another problem that I am sure I won't be able to resolve easily.

I set up a topic title as WikiHomePage so that I could put some text into the wiki home page - but am struggling with the text content  (can get some in, but not too much). The edit page function of the wiki only shows half a screen - the bottom part is blank. There is an item below the page title with a + sign next to it that opens up a few data entry boxes. If I do that then magically the save and cancel links appear at the bottom of the window underneath the white space - hence I can fill up a bit of the text box and get some text saved on the wiki home page. If I get the text to the bit where the text editing box outline disappears then anything else I type is not visible either so I can't do it properly.

Is this a bug? Is it something else I'm just not familiar with?

Please help!

Sorry I am also not very familar with the wiki Module and a bit busy at time.  I will try to check it, but don't think of an issue or bug of the wiki module.  Could it be that anything is bad on the html code there or any think not worked welll with the skin you are using?

For Skin check I want to sugest tu change the skin and containers to one of the Standard Skins that is delivered with DNN, on the Site settings.

Hi Duane,

Firstly, there is an issue with the Edit links not appearing on the Wiki Home page but I believe this will be fixed on the next release.

There is a workaround but, firstly, do you have the same issue when editing any other Wiki pages? If so, the following solution might not work.

The default Wiki Home page is actually referenced as WikiHomePage so I'm wondering if adding a new page with the same name is causing your problems.

So I would try deleting the new WikiHomePage that you created and then as follows (not a very elegant solution but I have yet to find another way):
  • Click Add Wiki Topic and create a temporary page (or edit a page already created)
  • Add a link to the Home page by entering [[WikiHomePage]] and Save
  • Then click the WikiHomePage link just created and you are taken to the Home page (you now have an Edit Wiki Topic link)
  • IMPORTANT: Click the Edit Wiki Topic, make an edit (a space will do) and Save
  • This will then give you the Edit Wiki Topic link on the Home page permanently
  • Delete the temporary page or link
Hope that helps!
