Sorry, I know there are some posts about this but I am still confused. I want to change the child joe.com/dnn/pete to pete.com. Pete.com is registered to me, hosted elsewhere. Before I go further, I need to point pete.com to joe.com/dnn/pete, correct? But how do I I tell DNN that I want joe.com/pete to use the alias pete.com ? Thanks so much, really like the videos, good job!

go to admin > Site Settings and add "pete.com" as portal alias. Make sure, your IIS web site is bount to this domain name as well.
In the name server you use, point pete.com to your web server. It may take a couple of hours, until all name servers are updated.
now you should be able to login to your site uing pete.com alias.
íf you want to drive all traffic from joe.com/dnn/pete to pete.com, go to Admin > Site Settings, and select Redirect method for portal alias, using default pete.com.
You may also need to adjust some of the links to images and documents in your web site content, because server relative urls may not work any longer.
