Hello!

I know next to nothing about DNN. I just recently took over my dad's business's website, so he can save money on a webmaster (haha.) I am doing this for free, for the learning experience.

So I have been tweaking the site, and I have put quite some hours in, into making all kinds of graphics and coding.
I decided this morning to see if it looked as nice in IE, and my goodness! The website looks like someone threw it in a blender, ran over the blender with a semi-truck, then fed it to sharks....
Basically, it looks NOTHING like how it should. And I have no clue why.... I really don't know about DNN, so if someone could guide me through making my site viewable from any browser, I'd appreciate it.

An example of what I am referring to is this:
Open this page in Firefox/Chrome: My Site
But, then open it in Internet Explorer, and you will see that it looks horrid.

I am wondering if that page specifically has so many problems because I have a java-form on it?
I really don't know.... Thanks for any help!

Hello,

Cool to hear you're getting into web development stuff - good luck - there's a lot to learn.

I couldn't devote the time to go through all of this... but, from what I saw, there are a few things right away.

Most notably, the code is really messy. Firefox and Chrome seem to work it out better than IE, but, arguably, they shouldn't. For example, there are numerous unclosed tags and there is so much additional markup that it's hard to tell where anything should go. I think, for example, that IE is getting lost in your input form there and losing track of a lot of the markup.

Your other pages seem to look OK in IE, so, it's probably the non-compliant code in that module that's causing the trouble. Do you have access to the module code itself? If not, you might be a little out of luck.

In any case, the DNN forums may not be the best place for this stuff... This isn't so much a DNN issue as it is a HTML/design question. We do have the skin forum here of course - and people there might be helpful, but, I would guess you'd have better luck in a more generalized HTML place. StackOverflow might help, for example.

Hope this helps,

Mike

To add to what Mike is saying, you can also check out DNNCreative.com. There are quite a bit of video tutorials that may be able to help you out.

I am sure they have some videos for skinning, it may be worth it to check them out as well.

This may be your opinion, but would not help in this case I guess. Or have you seen any statistics saying 99.99% of all web users worldwide use Opera? If that would be the case, I would ignore IE behaviour...

Best wishes
Michael
