Hello All,

I'm brand new to DNN so bear with me.

I'm having trouble with my Nav menu not showing up in some conditions and am not sure which forum area is the proper one in which to ask for help.

Some details on my problem:

If I run my web site from withing Visual Studio, I launch into a URL such as:

http://localhost:52918/<SiteName>/Default.aspx and everything works as expected.

But if I use this URL my nav menu doesn't show up: http://localhost/<SiteName>/Default.aspx but the rest of the page seems to render correctly.

I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting this and I don't want to ask in an inappropriate forum. So any pointers to the proper location would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-tomas

please try adding the localhost one as a portal alias of your site (under admin->site settings)

Hmmm ...

"localhost/<sitename>" was already listed in the "Site Aliases | Default Alias" drop down. I have selected that as the Default Alias, but my  menus still do not appear.

Any suggestions on where else to look?

Thanks,

-tomas

ive just reread the mail and realised you're using vs.net as the webserver - if you do so , only the port number based URL works. If you want to use multiple urls, you will either need to use IIS (or use IIS express as the webserver if using vs.net 2010 or above)

Sorry. I should have been clearer.

I have IIS installed and have created a virtual directory that points to http://localhost/<SiteName>/Default.aspx

So, everything works fine when I use the VS.NET internal web server, but the nav menu fails to show up when I try to access the site using IIS. I am suspecting that there is some permissions issue involved. Since I am also getting some "Unable to create a class" error (wording is not exact).

In the meantime, I will continue using the VS.NET web server.
