Why is there such a delay in publishing posts on this forum?  I've replied to posts of others in a thread I started to ask for help but the posts don't appear sometimes for many hours or at all.  Do posts have to be approved?  If that's the case, it makes it very difficult to utilize this forum as a problem-solving resource.

all new users are initially moderated, and after a short period get unmoderated - there are no hard and fast rules as its up the judgement of the individual moderator but typically a user is marked as trusted after 3-5 posts (though I like many of the other moderators unmoderate people earlier based on the qualitu of their posts i.e. if someone posts a useful/helpful answer I will unmoderate them immeadiately). This helps to reduce the spam we get here (we often delete a few dozen spam posts a day from the moderation queue)

Please note, we never delete posts unless they break the forum rules, though how quickly a post is released from moderation depends on the time of day and number of moderators - at present we have to visit the queue and release posts, but the new forums version is supposed to integrate with the notifications framework introduced in 6.2.0 so this will help a lot as it will push the requests to the moderators and not require us to remember to check a queue.

BTW your user has been marked as trusted now :)

Thanks for the explanation.  I suspected such was the case.  Frustration to solve a seemingly never-ending problem has a way of squashing patience.  It might be helpful to new users that this policy is more advertised or in plain sight.  I looked but was unable to locate anything.  Thanks again!!

I also want to thank you for this explanation, and also to say thank you for implementing this policy of registration rather than using one that involved image verification codes.  Moderation rather than verification promotes accessibility for blind and visually impaired individuals, and I appreciate boards and web sites whose administrators honor this fact.  I much prefer to verify a user via admin approval.
