I have a new DNN instance (06.02.00 (1610)) running on Hostgator hosting.  Everything was working well until we started adding users.   Then we had occasional users that could not login even if they verified their user account.  When I would go through admin/User Accounts, would get the message - A critical error has occurred.Access to the path ...\0\Users\...' is denied.   The number seemed to link to their user account ID, but could not find the folders on the server.

Now I (as Host - Admin - SuperUser) am completely blocked from User Accounts - getting this message - "A critical error has occurred.Access to the path ...\0\Users\255' is denied.   Folder Users\255 is not listed in my File Manager on the server, or in the Database Table - Folders.

I can access other areas in the Admin/Host menus.

Another issue is that as admin - I cannot manage any of the modules -- I don't know if these are related, or if I messed something else up while trying to research the above issue.

The 2  issues below has been solved -- the Mode button was on View, not Edit -- and that seemed to only effect this page.

This issue remains -

We have occasional users that can not login even if they verified their user account. When I would go through admin/User Accounts,  get the message - A critical error has occurred.Access to the path ...\0\Users\...' is denied. The number seems to link to their user account ID, but can not find the folders on the server.

More information -

From  8/1/212 4:25pm server time no folders were created in the Users Folder for new users.
Not every user registered before that point has a folder –
There are 24 new registered users after that point
51 user accounts with modifications – includes the 24 above– and all but one had a preexisting folder.

Last module uploaded to the system – 8/9
DNS switch 8/11
Added MySQL database to this server – 8/11
Registered a lot of users (2 people doing this) – on 8/12

 Thanks!

The inability to manage modules most likely was due to the mode selector being in "view" rather than "edit".

The permissions error when accessing user accounts and in particular user folders by both administrators and "normal" registered users appears to be related to insufficient file system permissions on the portals/0/users/ folder and/or on its child folders. This would also prevent the creation of user folders at the time a new user is added by an administrator or a new user registeres.

If you are able to check and set file system permissions in your hosting provider's control panel (usually File Manager), make sure that the ASP.Net worker process account assigned to the site's application pool has been granted full file system permissions (including modify) on the portals/ folder AND all child folders. You may have to submit a support ticket to have this done for you if your hosting provider's control panel does not permit you to examine and set file system permissions. While check this I would also make sure that the root folder for the DNN installation and all child folders has been granted the same permissions.

I think but have not looked at code or otherwise tested that once proper file system permissions have been granted, any user account whose user folders did not get created at registration will be automatically created the first time they are accessed.
