I'm seeing this error with 7.1.1. This thread is 9 months old and has yet to have a definitive answer. Adding the and sections from another site to the web.config seems to have fixed it for me.

did the handler section be missing completely or has it been part of another section - i.e. there are some elements in web.config, which rely on .Net version being used in IIS App Pools configuration (ASP.Net 2 or ASP.Net 4)

It was missing completely. Something is still off though. When I try to login, I can't see the Username or Password Box or Login button... I just see a blank dialog box inside the dialog box.

This issue is fixed for me ...In the project properties use IIS Express to run the application.

Any solution for this issue? i am facing it with DNN 7.3 Beta

Copying the httphandlers and httpmodules from DNN 6.x web.config , bypass the error but it cause more problems for example login page crashes.

 Any solution ?
