There are 23 product demo web seminars listed at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Web-Seminars.aspx

7 of these are titled "Introduction to DotNetNuke Professional Edition". Are these the same (the descriptions are) or is it worthwhile to watch them all? The upcoming presentation also is an "Introduction to DotNetNuke Professional Edition" and the 2 most recent "Introduction to DotNetNuke Professional Edition" seminars are given after the unveiling of DNN7. Do these describe DNN7?

I expect most, if not all, seminars except  "Attend the Unveiling of DNN 7.0" to cover DNN6 or earlier. Which of these are still relevant for DNN7?

As I'm new to DNN, I'm starting with DNN7. I've read the installation has been greatly simplified, but the Installation Webinar Recording I Found on the site (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Training/Installing-DotNetNuke.aspx) starts with comments on how difficult the installation is, so I expect this covers DNN6. How relevant is this for someone starting with DNN7? Should I view it, or would I be wasting an hour of my time?

This actually is a very broad problem.  Most of the documents I've found speak of DNN, without ever mentioning which version they cover. A "DNN for dummies" book even has "explore the lastest version of DNN" on the cover but I doubt a book from 2007 covers DNN7.
How significant are the changes from DNN6 to DNN7? Are documents on DNN6 still very relevant? or should a DNN beginner better avoid them?
I'm a software engineer and will definitly be looking into module development. I don't expect the documentation on this subject to be with the first to be updated. Has module development changed much in DNN7 compared to DNN6?

What documents/web seminars would you recommend to someone starting with DNN today?

whilst it may (is?) confusing oftentimes videos only refer to the first version something is available in, as we work hard to preserve compatibility between versions i.e. code written in DotNetNuke 3.x will still work in 7.x -we tend to add new things and enhance existing ones as you move up the versions. In essence (and particularly for dev's) anything that worked in 3.x/4.x/5.x/6.x will still work in 7.x -the wiki has a few useful pages on development and on the front page you can see the developer quick starts which show when something was added as well as usually linking to useful information (http://wiki.dotnetnuke.com/) . The one exception is around the service framework -this was introduced in 6.2.0 and used an asp.net MVC approach, but we replaced that in 7.0.0 with a WebAPI approach (this type of thing is rare and was only due to the short time span, and the fact that Microsoft had embraced WebAPI so much)

Nice to hear effort is made to preserve compatibility. However, on what areas (except service-framework) did DNN change so much it justified the major versions number change to 7.0.0?
This is exactly my problem: One needs to know what is new to DNN7 compared to DNN6 (which is impossible to understand if you aren't familiar with DNN6) to know which information is relevant for DNN7. You need to be able to identify which version of DNN certain information is about, something which a newby can not do.

Are you saying the http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Training/Installing-DotNetNuke.aspx video is still relevant for dnn7?
Maybe this is the cause of my concern/problem: The installation is the first thing one encounters, and this has changed so considerably from DNN6 to DNN7, I might have overestimated the changes to the rest of DNN. Maybe the other changes are mainly cosmetic and DNN6-documentation (except those about installation and the service framework) is still very usefull?

Roland,

Have you seen the installation video which was created on DNN 7?

Hadn't seen it yet, no. Thanks for the link.

The installation video I did find, (mentioned in my start post) is the one on the 'download' page. Where you can download DNN7, a pdf from 2010 and the old video.

Ironically an installation video for DNN7 is available (thanks again for the link), but tucked away in the video library.

I'll send the webmaster the suggestion to update the download page.
